Wings for Life World Run 2025
With more than 300,000 runners in 170 countries, the Wings for Life World Run is the largest charity run in the world. All proceeds go to spinal cord research to someday be able to cure paraplegia. This year's run raised 8.6 million euros for this cause.
All participants start simultaneously worldwide. Each runner continues until they are caught by a Catcher Car. Therefore, the result is not based on time, but on the distance covered before being overtaken by the Catcher Car. The longest distances run were over 71 kilometers by the men, in Tokyo, and 59 kilometers by the women, in Munich.
Athletes can participate in one of seven Flagship Runs around the world or run anywhere using the app, either alone or in a local event.
Our colleague Marco Hübl secured a spot this year at the sold-out flagship run in Munich, alongside 14,000 other runners. After starting in the Olympic Park, the route went through Maxvorstadt and then into the outskirts of Munich, heading towards Dachau and Fürstenfeldbruck.
The Catcher Car, driven by Olympic ski jumping champion Andreas Wellinger, caught up with Marco after nearly 20 kilometers. This places him among the top 12% worldwide. A great result, but not the most important. The good cause and the collective effort are what truly matter.
